2018 Mercedes-Benz GT R: Carbon Ceramic Brake Noise Issue Fixed – No Parts Replaced!
About This Project
2018 Mercedes-Benz GT R Concern: Carbon Ceramic Brakes emitting intolerable high-pitched squeal under light/moderate braking. Selling dealer refused warranty support.
Initial Diagnosis: Client arrived frustrated after the noise became “embarrassing” in daily driving. Road test confirmed extreme decibel levels—well beyond typical CCB bedding chatter. Pad thickness measured 7-8 mm front/rear; rotor life healthy. Client insisted on repair-without-replacement.
Root Cause: Upon disassembly, technician discovered heavy glazing across all pad faces (micro-polished friction material creating harmonic resonance against carbon rotors). Slide pins and anti-rattle clips were dry; minor surface corrosion present. Service Performed: – Pads removed & faces meticulously sanded to break glaze. – BG Stop Squeal applied to pad backs & ears (per OEM-approved method). – All calliper hardware cleaned, re-lubed, and re-installed. Result: Post-service road test: noise elimination from high and low speed stops, forward and reverse (reverse a slow speed previously was awful). Client texted same-day: “It’s quieter than when I bought it!” 1-Month Follow-Up: Zero squeal recurrence under heat cycles. Brake bite & modulation unchanged. Key Takeaway: Carbon ceramic systems can be serviced, not just replaced. Proper de-glazing + lubrication restored OEM silence while preserving $15k+ per axle, and rotor/pad life was salvaged. This fix works on nearly every make and model with carbon or standard brake rotors, semi-metallic or ceramic brake pads. BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Audi, Tesla, garage queens to daily drivers. No need for exotic tools or supercar prices. Bring us your squealer; we’ll do our best to make the screaming stop. Haus of Cars, where precision diagnostics save AMG wallets :)
